AvalonBay Holds Food Drives at 22 Properties in New Jersey

July 10, 2019

In May, AvalonBay celebrated its 8th annual Spirit of Caring month by holding food drives at 22 of their properties in New Jersey! Residents and members of the staff were asked to donate non-perishable food to help provide meals for their neighbors in need. Together, they collected nearly 2,200 lbs. of food, which is the equivalent of 1,800 meals!

Our friends from CORT and Moving of America picked up the donations from most of the locations, but several of the AvalonBay properties volunteered to make the delivery to the food bank themselves!

As a member of our Multi-Family Apartment Program, AvalonBay is also providing their residents with the opportunity to donate their non-perishable food when they move out. Residents at any of their participating properties can place canned goods, pasta, cereal, and any other non-perishable food that they don't want to take with them into a food collection bag. The bags will then be picked up and delivered to a local food bank by one of our local transportation partners. It’s a simple way for their community to be more sustainable and fight hunger at the same time.

In New Jersey, more than 865,000 people are facing food insecurity, including 1 in 7 children. AvalonBay has a long-standing history of building strong communities and making a difference in the neighborhoods where they live. This May, they could not have demonstrated this any better. Thank you so much to everyone who participated in this fantastic food drive!
