Team Move For Hunger Rocks It In Rainy Chicago

July 24, 2018

In true Chicago fashion, Team Move For Hunger once again faced less than ideal weather for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon, 10K & 5K this last weekend. Both days of the race were stricken with rainy and windy weather, making completing any of the distances even more difficult. With soaked clothes and heavy wet shoes, these members ran and walked through the streets of downtown Chicago to turn their miles into meals. Regardless of the conditions, the Team had their best year yet at this event, thanks to the dedication of some of our awesome supporters.

RNRChicago2018_SuiteHomeChicago-(5a)-web.jpgOn Saturday, Corporate Housing provider Suite Home Chicago made a strong showing for their second year in a row, raising over $1,500 for our programming. President Jennifer Breen braved the elements with two of her children, completing the 5K in the wet streets of Chicago. Gabriela Bankova also returned for a second year with her husband and Matthew Tobel made his Team debut with a fantastic time of 23 minutes in the 5K!

On Sunday, Chicago based National Van Lines came out strong with a team of 13, all completing the half marathon. Lead by COO (and all time Team Move For Hunger top fundraiser) Tim Helenthal, this dedicated group was all smiles even when the downpours hit. Complete with their own co-branded t-shirts, National raised an amazing $10,675 crushing their goal!

Thomas Bailey from ReloTrans Auto Relocation also made his half marathon and Team debut with an impressive time of 1:49! With his wife and two young children cheering him on in the rain, Thomas proved that the weather won’t damper his dedication. And by raising $2,025, he’s become one of our top fundraisers as well.

Ben raised $375 and is excited for the opportunities for their Denver and Seattle locations to turn their miles into meals at a race in the future.

Lastly, MiniMoves of Chicago did some serious hauling by picking up and delivering the leftover finish line food to the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry. 7,165 pounds was delivered, providing more than 5,900 meals for those in need in Chicago.

A big thank you to all of our Team members, donors and supporters for making this event a huge success. We will see you next year!
