Team Move For Hunger Highlight – Mary LeskoApril 17, 2019 | 1:07 pm |
Our Team Move For Hunger member highlight this month is Mary Lesko, a participant for the Big Sur International Marathon on April 28th. Not only is Mary currently our top fundraiser with over $2,000 raised, she has an inspirational story for joining the Team.
Hunger relief holds a special place for Mary since as a child, she grew up hungry in a poor, rural area. Her upbringing inspired her to find purpose for her pain and to help those that are less fortunate, just like she was. Mary knows first hand what food insecurity feels like and recognizes that the Move For Hunger mission truly does make a difference for those in need.
In addition to her previous struggles with hunger, Mary unfortunately faces numerous health challenges as well. She has dreamed to run the Big Sur Marathon since 1998 but some neurological brain and balance issues have caused her plans to go on hold. Since February of this year, Mary went from a healthy yoga instructor and runner to not being able to sit up. Issues with vertigo and motor function make daily living difficult and makes training extremely challenging to say the least. Luckily, her symptoms are currently in remission but unfortunately she could relapse at any moment. Since she’s been running marathons since 2007, Mary knows she has the capability to finish but also knows this new chapter in her life will make crossing the finish line all that more important. Thanks to her family and faith, Mary is determined to finish strong and healthy.
GOOD LUCK MARY – YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
