Team Move For Hunger Crushes 2018

December 20, 2018

It's been another fantastic year for Team Move For Hunger with 2018 being our best yet! This year brought enthusiastic teams from some of our largest partners along with some gigantic food rescues from races all over the country. Here's a look back at what our awesome Team members accomplished in 2018:

$90,537 Raised

142 Participants in 16 different events

2,655 Miles turned into meals

269,274 Pounds of food rescued from endurance events nationwide

RNRChicago2018_SuiteHomeChicago-(5a)-web.jpgThe year began not with a race but with pick ups. Our supporters from Beltmann Relocation Group in Phoenix and Crown Relocations in Houston did some serious hauling by helping out with the Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon and Race for the Cure, bringing in over 19,000 pounds in January alone.

The year continued with amazing support from our partners at Paxton Van Lines at the Rock 'n' Roll DC Marathon in March. Lead by Bill Paxton (thanks to a call out at the annual Atlas convention by our own Adam Lowy), they raised almost $6,000 and delivered over 10,000 pounds of food to the Capital Area Food Bank.

April was another great month as the Team participated in the famous Big Sur International Marathon, raising over $21,000 for our programming. In addition, Move For Hunger was again present at our local New Jersey Marathon, raising over $1,000 and delivering over 2,500 pounds of food to Fulfill of Monmouth and Ocean Counties thanks to Lowy's Moving Service. And we can't forget Gentle Giant at the iconic Boston Marathon, delivering over 11,500 pounds of food to the Greater Boston Food Bank.

GrandmasMarathon2018-Carrie (2).jpgMay brought us back to Denver for the Colfax Marathon where once again, our awesome supporters at Colorado Hi Tec Moving and Storage and American Moving and Storage turned some serious miles into meals. Over $4,400 was raised with the Colorado Hi Tec taking on the 5K along with John Floyd from American Moving crushing his first full marathon!

Summer brought the team back to the famous Grandma's Marathon & Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon, raising over $13,000 with a team of 25 runners and walkers in June. July was all about the Windy City with the Team participating in the Rock 'n' Roll Chicago 1/2 Marathon for the 4th year. The group comprised mainly by the team from National Van Lines, raising an amazing $13,955 led by COO Tim Helenthal. Thomas Bailey from ReloTrans also raised an impressive $2,025, completing his first half marathon with a great time of 1:49. And for the second year in a row, the group from Suite Home Chicago came out in the pouring rain to tackle the 5K.

Also in July, our multi family supporters came out to turn miles into meals at the San Francisco Marathon. Members from The Marc Palo Alto completed both the half marathon and 5K with a combined fundraising total of over $8,000.

SanfranciscoMarathon_TheMarcGroup2019 (5).jpgThe year ended with another strong showing from our partners at Updater, tackling the Tunnel to Towers 5K for the third year in a row. Lead by Move For Hunger Board Member Jenna Weinerman, the group raised over $6,200 using their swag to collect donations. In October, Jennifer Harvey from Crown Relocations created a surprise fundraiser for the Chicago Marathon, raising over $1,680 in a matter of days and finished the soggy race with an incredible time of 3:11.

Lastly, the year ended with some enormous race pick ups on both sides of the country. In November, the dedicated group from Ace Relocations in Orlando went above and beyond by delivering much needed food and drink from the Ironman race to residents affected by Hurricane Michael. These awesome members not only drove from Orlando to Panama City to deliver 32,000 pounds of food to help those in need, they also delivered 35,000 pounds of bottle water to the Orlando Food Bank. Also in November, our members from Ace WorldWide Western Region once again rescued food from the Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon, delivering over 28,000 pounds of food to the Three Square Food Bank.
