Stamp Out Hunger 2018 | Movers Deliver Nearly 724,600 lbs. of Food in a Single Day!

On Saturday, May 13, The National Association of Letter Carriers held the 26th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, the nation’s largest one-day food collection effort. Residents in thousands of communities across the United States were asked to leave bags of non-perishable food donations on their porch or near their mailbox. Postal workers then collected the donations as they delivered mail along their route.

Getting the donations to the food bank always presents a challenge, and that’s where Move For Hunger can really make a difference! More than 50 members of our network sacrificed their Saturday afternoons help pick up the donations from collection points and deliver them to their local food banks. Our movers delivered 724,600 lbs. of food in total, which is the equivalent 603,800 meals!

The food banks we coordinated with were so appreciative of the logistical support our movers could provide.

“Coleman Allied was a HUGE help,” said Megan Nuismer Herrington, Associate Director of Food Strategies of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana. “This significantly eased the workload for our drivers and we truly appreciate everyone who volunteered their time.”

“Reebie Storage and Moving Co. played an important role,” said Cary Gilkey, Vice President of Operations for Loaves and Fishes in Naperville, IL. “Their speed packs and sets of wheels made the task safer and easier to accomplish.”

“The event was a HUGE success and everything was seamless,” said Beenish Dhanani, Program Manager at Big Sunday in Los Angeles. “We were able to collect a TON of food.”

The timing of the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive couldn’t be better. Food banks face their greatest need during the summer, when classes end and low-income children are no longer receiving free or reduced-cost meals at school.

THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE MOVERS WHO VOLUNTEERED TO HELP

KEEP THE SHELVES STOCKED DURING THE HUNGRIEST TIME OF YEAR!
