Northstar Moving Company and Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Send Hunger Packing!

July 18, 2017

The saying “You Can Never Have Too Much of a Good Thing” can be applied to almost anything, but is especially true in the case of food drives. In a country where 42 million people are food insecure, food drives help to relieve the pressure on food banks and pantries to provide enough sustenance for the millions of grumbling stomachs across the nation.

NorthStar Moving® Company and Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Greater Los Angeles and Orange County are well aware of the relief food drives can provide and have been helping to fight hunger for FIVE summers now with their annual “Let’s Send Hunger Packing” food drive. The food drive, which took place from May 22-June 16 helped to raise more than 6,368 pounds of food — enough to provide  5,300 meals!

As a result of  NorthStar Moving® Company and Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s extensive efforts over the past five years, their “Let’s Send Hunger Packing” food drive has led to the collection of nearly 33,000 pounds of food — which is to equivalent to 27,000 meals! NorthStar Moving Company’s co-founder, Laura McHolm, is “beyond thrilled that we have fed so many hungry tummies” and that without the help of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage and the surrounding community, the success of the food drive would not be possible without them. McHolm encourages everyone to lend a hand in the fight against hunger and donate food or money to their local food bank because “it really is as simple as a click of a button to help make a difference in the fight to end hunger.”

Donation boxes were placed in 27 of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage offices throughout Los Angeles and Orange County as well as NorthStar Moving Company’s Headquarters in Chatsworth, California. Not only did NorthStar Moving Company provide organize and provide transportation for the drive, but they will, “honor the winning offices, one in each county, with a monetary donation to their local food bank in their name.”

A big thanks to NorthStar Moving® Company and Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage for their continued efforts to help put and end to the hunger that affects over 1,450,000 people in Los Angeles and almost 350,000 people in Orange County. We hope that you continue this amazing annual food drive for many years to come!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
