Moving is a time of transitions, and for pets it can be a stressful. Here are some practical ways to make the move easier on your pets.

  1. Look Up New Codes

If you are moving to a new town or state, make sure and look up the new pet laws. You can usually do this be looking at the city’s website. Your pet might have to be registered or get new vaccines.

  2. Change Identification

Get a new ID tag for your pet with your updated address. Change your pet’s ID chip if you can before the move, too. This way if your pet does run off in the chaos of the move they will have the correct identification on them.

  3. Look Up Pet Friendly Hotels

If you are moving a long distance, make sure to look up which hotels are pet friendly. You can see a list of pet friendly hotels here!

  4. Keep it Quiet

Moving day can be very stressful for pets. On the day of the move keep your pet in a quiet, secure room. This will keep them out of the way and help them to feel safer. If you can, it might be a good idea to have a friend watch your pet for the day of the move.

  5. Unpack Essentials

Make sure to keep your pets bedding, some toys, and blankets in an easy to reach place. Set these items up your first night in the new house to help your pet feel more comfortable and adjust faster.
