Moving Ahead Services Rescues Nearly 3 Tons of Food From the Cleveland Marathon

On May 19, Moving Ahead Services rescued more than 5,300 lbs. of oranges, bananas, and other snacks from the Cleveland Marathon. Everything was delivered to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. Over the past 2 years, Moving Ahead Services has recovered nearly 12,500 lbs. of food/beverages from this race, alone!

About 40% of all food grown, processed and transported in the United States will go to waste this year. It’s unconscionable that we could be wasting so much food, especially when 40 million Americans are facing hunger. That’s why food rescues like this are so important. According to The National Resource Defense Council, if we were able to rescue just 15% of the food we waste each year, we’d save enough to feed more than half of the American struggling with food insecurity.

More than 1.6 million people in Ohio, including 1 in 5 children, face hunger every day. Thank you to Jeff Collins, Adam Gurwell, and the rest of the team from Moving Ahead Services for helping out again this year!
