Each month, we highlight one of the moving companies in our network for their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. We are excited to announce that A-1 Moving & Storage of Jupiter, FL has been named our Mover of the Month for June 2019!
In June, A-1 Moving & Storage once again volunteered assist with the food drive that our partners from The Keyes Company and Illustrated Properties host each spring. As Florida’s leading independent real estate company, The Keyes Company and Illustrated properties have offices throughout the state. Forty offices participated in the food drive this year, and A-1 Moving & Storage picked up the donations from all of them! More than 3,200 lbs. of food was donated overall, which is enough to provide 2,700 meals.
"We are Palm Beach County residents, and I am a native, so we all feel that giving back to your community is very important," said Katie Newitt, A-1 Moving & Storage's Vice President.
More than 2.8 million people in Florida are facing hunger, inlcuding 1 in 5 children. A-1 Moving & Storage is committed to helping change those statistics. Over the last 6 years, they have delivered more than 57,500 lbs. of food to their local food banks.
“Move For Hunger has been a great asset to our company,” Newitt said. “I think it helps us all get involved in giving back, and also makes everyone aware how much of a food shortage we have in our own community."
As anyone in the moving industry can tell you, summer is the busy season. And, as anyone who has worked in hunger relief can attest, summer is also the time of year when food banks/pantries see the greatest demand for their services. When we asked Katie Newitt how her team balances their volunteer with their day-to-day business, she had a simple, yet inspiring, response.
"We just find the time."
