January 2018 Mover of the Month: Pete's Moving Services

February 21, 2018

Each month, we highlight one of the moving companies in our network for their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. We are excited to announce that Pete's Moving Services, a National Van Lines agent, is our Mover of the Month for January 2018!

When Pete's Moving Services joined our network in September, they knew right away that they wanted to do something big to announce their commitment to fighting hunger in Modesto, CA. And one of the best ways for our members to do that is to hold a Fill-A-Truck food drive.

It took some time to work out the details, but the event was eventually held on January 20. Which, in a way, made the food drive even more important. Everyone wants to help during the holiday season, but food banks typically see a steep decline in donations at the start of the new year.

"We know our community very well and we believe that individuals and local business all have a responsibility to contribute," said Melissa Brichka, Vice President of Pete's Moving Services.

It's hard to miss a moving truck when it's parked right outside of the entrance to your favorite supermarket, which is why a Fill-A-Truck is an easy way for members of our network to raise awareness about hunger in their communities. Shoppers will stop by to check out what's going on as they head into the store, and drop off their donations on the way out.

Pete's Moving Services held their food drive outside of O'Brien's Market, a grocery store in Modesto, and their staff was on hand encouraging shoppers to help them fill the entire trailer with non-perishable food donations. Nearly 500 lbs. of food was collected in just 3 hours, which will provide 415 meals to their neighbors in need!

"Both employees and shoppers were excited to hear about the food drive and many contributed to the cause," Brichka said. "We even had a couple that was traveling to San Francisco stop by just to drop off non-perishables. We felt great joy knowing that people were willing to take time from their busy schedules to help out the community."

Pete's Moving Services personally delivered to the Second Harvest Food Bank of San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties.

"This was the perfect way for us to fight hunger, which affects 1 in 4 children in Stanislaus County," Brichka said.

The year has only just begun, and Brichka believes that this is just the first of many events Pete's Moving Services will hold in 2018.

"We hope to plan several food drives this year, and to collect even more non-perishable food next time."

In addition to the award, Pete's Moving Services will also be receiving a Move For Hunger hand truck, courtesy of Victory Packaging and Move For Hunger truck decals for their entire fleet.

Congratulations to Pete's Moving Services on this much-deserved recognition. Thank you for commitment to reducing food waste and fighting hunger in the Golden State!
