Jake Green - Ultramover

June 7, 2017

Our runner highlight comes from a Bekins agent, Dixie Moving and Storage in Washington, Utah. Jake Green is the Sales and Marketing Manager and will be turning his miles into meals at the Bryce Canyon 50 Mile race this on June 17. While the majority of our Team members are 5K to half marathoners, Jake truly goes the distance when he laces up. A seasoned athlete, he has an impressive resume from his 8 years of racing:
• 2 Ironman Triathlons
• 3 Ultramarathons (50K or more)
• Over a dozen marathons
• 35 Half Marathons

The Bryce Canyon 50 will be his second 50-mile race, and he has his sights set on a 100K in July, and, hopefully, a 100-miler in the future.

We met Jake at the Wheaton/Bekins conference in 2016 and he immediately immersed himself and the company in the program. Like so many of our members, Jake has seen how much is wasted during the relocation process and vowed to do something about it.

“I move people on a regular basis that end up throwing away a lot of food that could be donated or given to somebody that doesn't know where their next meal is coming from”, he says.

Shortly after the convention Jake organized a food drive sponsored by a local radio station and collected 1,000 pounds of food. Motivated by the outcome, he was driven to continue.

“The experience was awesome! But I also realized that I could do more”, he said. So he laced up and decided to also turn his miles into meals.

So far, Jake has raised over $1,000 of his $2,000 goal. Let’s help him reach his goal! Check out his Crowdrise page here.

Thank you for your support Jake and way to go the distance!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
