Each year, there are thousands of marathons and races across the country. At every single one of them, there are snacks and beverages available at the finish line to help the athletes refuel. But what happens to the leftovers once the race is over? Too often, it is simply thrown in the trash. We're working to change that.
Since 2014, Move For Hunger has been rescuing leftover food/beverages from races all across the country. Thanks to our network of socially-responsible moving companies, more than 1 million lbs. of snacks, bagels, bananas, bottled water, and sports drinks have been saved and delivered to food banks nationwide.
Our most recent rescue took place in Seattle on June 6 at the Rock n’ Roll Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K. Our friends from Golden Services recovered more than 5,800 lbs. of food/drinks from the event and delivered it all to the Rainier Valley Food Bank.
