Gentle Giant Rescues 14,300 LBS. of Food from the San Francisco Marathon

August 7, 2019

Gentle Giant Moving Company of San Francisco rescued nearly 14,355 lbs. of bananas, fruit cups, and bottled water from the San Francisco Marathon last month!

More than 27,000 runners and walkers took part in this year’s race. At the finish line, beverages and snacks are provided to help the participants refuel after their grueling 26.2-mile trek. While most of the food was put to good use to replenish the exhausted athletes, much of it was left untouched. At most races, the leftovers would probably be thown away, but Gentle Giant’s movers made sure that nothing went to waste at this one.

After the race, Gentle Giant’s crew loaded up the remaining food and beverages and delivered them all to the San Francisco Marin Food Bank.

More than 140,000 people in Marin County are food insecure, including 1 in 7 children. Thank you so much to Gentle Giant Moving Company for everything you do to reduce food waste and fight hunger in the communities you serve!
