Dircks Moving & Logistics Saves Nearly 4,000 LBS. of Food at the Tempe TriathlonSeptember 27, 2019 | 10:18 am |
For the third year in a row, Dircks Moving & Logistics rescued all of the leftover food and beverages from the Tempe Triathlon!
Usually, athletes competing in endurance events are provided food and snacks like energy bars, bagels, and sports drinks when they cross the finish line. The organizers tend to order way more than they could possibly give out, and a lot of what doesn’t get used ends up being thrown in the trash. That’s where we come in!
On September 15, at Tempe Beach Park in Arizona, Dircks Moving and Logistics was able to rescue nearly 3,800 pounds of bananas, water, gatorade, and pretzels! Dirck’s Moving & Logistics then delivered all of it to Andre’s House of Hospitality.
More than 600,000 people in Maricopa County are food insecure. Children are disproportionately affected, with more than 200,000 — about 1 in 4 — affected by food insecurity. Andre’s House of Hospitality opened in 1984, where their soul mission has been to “serve and welcome everyone, while striving to foster peace in an alienated world.” Andre’s House provides food, shelter, clothing, companionship, and other services. The huge contribution from Dircks Moving and Logistics was welcomed with open arms and very much appreciated.
Since 2014, members of the Move For Hunger network have recovered more than 1 million pounds of food and beverages from events all over the country! A big THANK YOU to Natalie, Kip, and everyone at Dircks Moving & Logistics for rescuing so much food for your neighbors in need!
