Crown Relocations Raises $10,500 at the Inaugural New Jersey Truck Pull!

August 7, 2018

We are so excited to announce that more than $10,500 were raised to benefit Move For Hunger at the 1st annual New Jersey Truck Pull, which was held on August 4 at Crown Relocations’ offices in Keasbey, NJ.

Never heard of a truck pull before? Here’s how it works: teams of 5-10 compete to see who can pull a moving truck 100 feet in the fastest time. And trust us, it’s as much of a challenge as it sounds!

CrownRelocationsNewJerseyTruckPull2018-(66)-web.jpgThe day started off with some rain showers in the morning, but ultimately the skies cleared and it turned into a pretty hot day for our truck pull teams. Imagine how strenuous pulling a 14,000+ lbs. moving truck would be...and now imagine pulling all of that weight in this humid summer weather!

None of this would have been possible without our generous sponsors! We are so grateful for the support from Victory Packaging, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, GDK, PetRelocation, Wheaton World Wide Moving, Thurston Transportation, and AIT Worldwide Logistics.

A huge thank you to Crown Relocations for hosting this event and being one of our most valued members! Since joining our network in 2010, they have collected more than 205,00 lbs. of food, providing more than 171,000 meals to families in need! Your dedication to the fight against hunger and food insecurity is truly inspiring!

CrownRelocationsNewJerseyTruckPull2018-(169)-web.jpgWe would also like to express our gratitude to our Truck Pull MVP and Crown Relocations' general manager, Bob Leotti, for all of his help with organizing this event! From handling all the event logistics over at Crown to spreading the word throughout the community, this event would not have been such a success without you!

Beyond raising money for a great cause, this truck pull event helped us raise awareness about hunger and food insecurity in America & expose more people to Move For Hunger’s mission!

We can not wait to see what next year has in store! We are fortunate to have incredible partners across the country who help make events like this a reality. If you’re interested in holding a fundraiser for Move For Hunger in your city, please let us know!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
