Move For Hunger Receives $7,500 Grant from OceanFirst

November 23, 2022

This October, Move For Hunger received a $7,500 grant from the OceanFirst Foundation that empowers nonprofits to help make life better for those living in neighborhoods. Much like Move For Hunger, the OceanFirst Foundation is based in southern New Jersey and has provided grants to Move For Hunger almost every year since 2011.Check Presentation Photo_Move for Hunger.jpg

This grant could not have come at a more opportune time. Inflation has been taking a toll on food insecure communities through most of 2022, with grocery prices continuing to rise and lines at food banks growing longer. Food banks across the country are reporting the most traffic they’ve seen all year.

The cost of groceries has risen 13.5% in the past year, with cereal products rising 17% and eggs increasing nearly 40%. The median rent has increased 16% in the past twelve months, leaving low-income families to choose between putting food on the table or paying for a roof over their heads.

With 38 million Americans facing hunger, this grant from the OceanFirst Foundation will help provide 19,000 meals to those in need across the country. Since 2011, OceanFirst has helped provide more than 310,000 meals for food insecure communities.
