August 2019 Mover of the Month: Hilldrup of Atlanta

September 20, 2019

Each month, we highlight one of the moving companies in our network for their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. We are excited to announce that Hilldrup of Atlanta has been named our Mover of the Month for August 2019!

Our partners from Hilldrup are longtime supporters of Move For Hunger. Nine Hilldrup locations in the southeast are members of our network and together they have provided more than 43,000 meals for their neighbors in need. One thing that has always stood out about Hilldrup is how dependable their crews are. If we ask for their help, they’ll almost always say yes.

Last month, for example, we found ourselves in a tough situation. Three student living communities in Atlanta had agreed to collect non-perishable food donations from their residents during move-out. Unfortunately, the moving company that had agreed to pick up the donations orginally had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.

HilldrupAtlanta2019.jpgThe great thing about having a network of nearly 1,000 moving companies is that you usually can find a backup plan. When we contacted Hilldrup to see if they could deliver the donations to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, we knew they’d say yes.

“Hilldrup considers it our responsibility to support the communities that support us, this has always been our culture,” said Brandi Hatch, Hilldrup Atlanta’s Office Manger. “Giving back to our community creates meaning in what we do as an organization, and we are always striving to better the lives of the people around us in any way that we can.”

Hatch and Kathleen Toney, Hilldrup’s Commerical Coordinator, were able to send a truck that had been in the area to pick up the 50 bags of food that the students had donated. More than 700 lbs. of non-perishables were delivered to the food bank, which is enough to provide 585 meals! Summer is a difficult time of year for food banks, as donations tend to decline, so we were so thankful that Hilldrup was ready, willing, and able to help. Hatch told us that the pleasure was all their’s.

“We love being a part of Move for Hunger,” she said. “We are very grateful for having a partner that makes it possible to give back to our community. With your help and support, we learned how easy it is to host a food drive and have an immediate impact in the lives of so many.”

One of the reasons that so many moving companies have joined our network is because asking customers to donate their food when they move is something that fits seamlessly into their day-to-day operations. Still, these are businesses with their own schedules and deadlines to meet. Companies like Hilldrup, however, often put doing good ahead of doing business.

“August is a busy month in our industry but when Move for Hunger reached out for help, we knew how important it was to do whatever we could to get the food donations to the place where they could do the most good. It was an easy decision for us to adjust our schedule and make it happen!”

In addition to the award, Hilldrup of Atlanta will also be receiving Move For Hunger truck decals for their entire fleet.

Congratulations to Hilldrup of Atlanta on this much-deserved recognition! Thank you for helping us reduce food waste and fight hunger in Georgia!
