NEW YORK – June 18, 2019 – Assurant, Inc. (NYSE: AIZ), a global provider of housing and lifestyle solutions that support, protect and connect major consumer purchases , announced today that it is partnering with  Move For Hunger to assist the organization’s efforts to reduce food waste and fight hunger nationwide. Assurant’s new partnership with Move For Hunger launches during the upcoming NAA Apartmentalize 2019 conference in Denver on June 26-28, 2019.

To date, the non-profit’s network of relocation professionals has collected more than 15 million pounds of food – from people who are moving – providing more than 12.5 million meals via food banks and pantries across the United States and Canada.

“Our work with multifamily housing property managers gives us a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities of moving in and out of rental properties,” said Steve Hein, senior vice president of Multifamily Housing at Assurant. “In partnership with Move For Hunger and our clients we can help ensure that food does not go to waste when someone moves, but rather is donated to local food banks and pantries nationwide.”

Hein added that the Assurant Foundation’s donation during NAA Apartmentalize 2019 helps to raise awareness of Move For Hunger’s important work throughout the multifamily housing community. For conference attendees who are interested in learning more about Move For Hunger, a donation will be made in their honor for those who visit with Assurant at booth 1301.

“Forty million Americans are facing hunger every day, including one in six children. Meanwhile, we are wasting 40 percent of the food we produce every year,” explained Adam Lowy, Executive Director/Founder of Move For Hunger. “Assurant understands the urgency of the problem and the importance of sustainable solutions. We are proud to call them our partners.”
