Anchor Moving & Storage Rescues 5,000 LBS. of Food from Philadelphia Marathon

November 30, 2017

One of the great things about having a network of nearly 800 professional moving companies dedicated to reducing food waste and fighting hunger is that, if plans with one crew fall through, we usually have another team who is willing take their place. Such was the case at this year's Philadelphia Marathon.

For the second year in a row, we pledged to have a mover who would volunteer to rescue any leftover food and beverages from the race. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the company that had agreed to help had to cancel less than a week before the event. Fortunately, we had another partner in the area that we knew would jump at the opportunity. Thanks to the generosity of the team at Anchor Moving and Storage, an Atlas Van Lines agent, more than 5,000 lbs. of oranges, snacks, pretzels, water, and sports drinks were recovered and delivered to Philabundance

Anchor Moving and Storage has proven to be one of the most reliable and committed members of our network. Last October, for example, despite short notice and the fact that it was taking place on a Saturday afternoon, Anchor agreed to send a truck to pick up the donations from the Pine Hill Scout Reservation’s Cub Fun Day food drive.

Our network has now rescued more than 200,000 lbs. of food/beverages from 21 different races across the country this year — more than we ever have before. Thank you to Lisa Hale, Mike Jenkins, and the rest of the crew at Anchor Moving & Storage for stepping up at the last minute!
