Doing Good at Rock ‘n’ Roll DC – Again!March 17, 2016 | 2:57 pm |
This past Saturday, Team Move For Hunger rocked, rolled and ran their way through the streets of historic Washington DC at the Rock ‘n’ Roll DC Marathon, 1/2 Marathon & 5K! With our largest Team to date, the group of runners and walkers enjoyed this fun event with friends and family – even the kids got involved!
In their second year, the group from Redfin made a strong showing with a Team raising over $2,500 for our hunger relief and food waste reduction efforts. In addition, many employees brought their kids and made the 5K a family affair. Not to be outdone, the group from The Paxton Companies had a great group of runners in both the 5K and half marathon, even using our truck decals to show their support! The International Association of Movers rocked the 5K, complete with the youngest Team member yet. And finally, our partner Gentle Giant Moving Company was an integral part of the day, having 4 runners in the half marathon and even suppling volunteers at the event.
Not only was Move For Hunger turning miles into meals on the course, we were fighting hunger and food waste off the course as well. For the third year in a row,the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series generously donated the remaining food and drink from the finish line to the Captial Area Food Bank. 10,238 pounds of food were delivered for our friends and families in need in the DC area, generating over 8,500 meals. A special thank you to Gentle Giant Moving Company for doing the hauling the second year in row, their dedication for fighting hunger makes them a Giant supporter!
