For the fifth year in a row, the Circle K International group at the University of Michigan hosted their “Trick-or-Can!” food drive.
The student-led organization handed out fliers in the days and weeks leading up to Halloween. Residents of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti were asked to donate non-perishable items to help fight hunger in their communities. The students returned to the residences on October 31 to pick up the donations. This year, they were able to collect 1,500 lbs. of food, which is enough to provide 1,250 meals!
University Moving and Storage once again volunteered to deliver all of the donations to Food Gatherers food bank.
There are nearly 50,000 people, including 1 in 8 children, in Washtenaw County who face hunger each day. Thank you to the students, University Moving and Storage, and everyone who made a donation for recognizing the urgency of the problem and taking action!
